Ethical Practices
Thank you for your interest and support of our handcrafted items. We want to share some important details about our materials and our commitment to ethical practices.
Porcupine Quills: We never harm or kill porcupines for their quills. All the porcupine quills used in our art are responsibly sourced from roadkill. These quills are collected from animals that have unfortunately met with accidents, and we ensure that our practices are respectful and ethical.
Birch Bark: When harvesting birch bark, we follow responsible and sustainable methods. We make every effort to harvest from trees that are scheduled for logging and already designated for removal. In years when we cannot find trees that are going to be removed by logging, we take great care to ensure that the trees are not harmed. We only collect enough bark that we will use in a season, and where the harvest will not impact the tree's health. This approach allows us to make use of natural materials in a respectful and sustainable manner.
Offering Tobacco: In keeping with our commitment to honoring nature, we practice traditional respect by offering tobacco to both the trees from which we harvest bark and to the porcupine whose quills we use. This gesture of gratitude reflects our deep respect for all aspects of the natural world and our desire and commitment to maintain harmony with it.
We are committed to crafting art that respects and honors nature, and we take every step to ensure our practices align with these values. If you have any questions or would like more information about our materials, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you for supporting our efforts in creating art responsibility.
